What Happens in a Barre Class?

Think small, controlled movements that target muscles you didn't even know you had. No jumping. No heavy weights. No complicated choreography.

Here's what a typical class looks like:

  • Warm-up and alignment work to get your body ready and ensure you're moving safely from the start.

  • Barre work using the barre for support as you move through ballet-inspired positions like pliés and leg lifts. These small, precise movements create deep muscle engagement.

  • Resistance and upper body work using light weights to tone and strengthen your arms, shoulders, and back. You'll feel the burn without bulking up.

  • Mat work for core strengthening, stretching, and toning. This is where you really feel your core, glutes, and legs light up.

  • Cool-down and stretching to lengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and leave you feeling strong (not destroyed).

Every move is guided by our instructors. They'll show you how to modify for your level, correct your form, and make sure you're getting the most out of every movement.

Your First Class: What To Expect

What to wear: Whatever you’d wear going for a walk or run. Leggings and a comfortable top are perfect. 

What to bring: Just yourself and a water bottle. You'll have your own dedicated workout station with everything set up and ready to go.

Where to go: We're located at Unit K4, Maynooth Business Campus, Maynooth, Co. Kildare. Plenty of parking available.

When to arrive: Aim to arrive 10 minutes early for your first class so we can show you around and answer any questions.

What if an exercise is too difficult? Your instructor will spot it and quietly show you an easier way to do it.

Here's what most people ask before their first class:

Do I need dance experience?

Not at all. Barre is inspired by ballet, but you don't need any dance background. Our instructors guide you through every move.

Will I be sore after my first class?

You'll likely feel it the next day… in a good way! Barre is high-intensity but low-impact, so you won't feel beaten up like you would after a bootcamp or HIIT class.

What if I can't keep up?

You work at your own pace. Our classes are small, and our instructors are there to help you modify any movement to suit your level.

How often should I do Barre?

Most people start with 2 classes per week and see great results. But even once a week can make a big difference to how you feel.

What's the difference between Barre and Hot Yoga?

Hot Yoga is about flexibility, balance, and mindfulness in a heated room.

Barre focuses on strength and toning through small, controlled movements using the barre, mat, and light weights. 

Both are low-impact, it just depends on your preference and goals.  

What if I have a bad knee, back, or joint issue?

Barre is low-impact and joint-friendly, which is why a lot of people with these issues love it. That said, if you have a specific injury or condition, check with your doctor or physio before starting. Your instructor can then adjust movements to suit you.
